Let's define online learning

Convenience is the key word here. Online learners are seeking a flexible alternative to attending the traditional classroom. Busy lifestyles make this type of learning more popular all the time. One may define online learning as a convenient method for learners to access a variety of educational resources delivered via the Internet.

Online courses can be synchronous or asynchronous in their delivery style and a variety of tools may be employed, such as Blackboard discussion boards, digital drop boxes, virtual field trips, email with attachments, shared websites, blog postings, and even audio/video conferencing. Hi Caryn,
There doesn't seem to be a lot of disagreement as to what constitutes online learning. One of the simplest definitions that I ran across (using Google define:online learning) was found at alt.uno.edu/glossary.html. Learning via educational material that is presented on a computer via an intranet or internet.
All the definitions are variations on a theme but all include 1)educational material, 2)a network, and 3)a computer.
